2017: What's New

Dear friends, and family,We are very delighted to have Susan’s daughter, Sierra Reeves, stepping up to take a bigger role as a new member of the band. In addition to being a wonderful songwriter, Sierra plays guitar, and has picked up bass and mandolin to add to her gorgeous lead and harmony vocals. Needless to say, she is very talented, dedicated, and lots of fun! We are very pleased to have some exciting new material that we’re working on together.By popular demand, we were invited back to The Parkfield Bluegrass Festival on Mother’s Day weekend in May. We had a blast playing the Thursday night bar show and twice on the main stage.  It was also our 4th year teaching the children’s program and our big harmony class. It’s always a treat to see the kids perform on Sunday, and to bring our harmony singers onstage with us for an opening song on our closing set. As usual, Ruth taught an invigorating and successful flatfooting workshop.  We saw lots of old friends and made many new ones! Here’s what’s we've been up to:Sunday, June 11 we had fun playing at the intimate Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena, CA.Saturday, June 17, we were thrilled to be invited to perform on Vern’s Stage at the 42nd Annual Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, CA. This is a long-standing festival which attracts very talented artists. It was quite an honor! We ran into a lot of old friends and made some new ones too!Tuesday, July 4, we were at the 4th of July Bluegrass Freedom Festival presented by Colony Days & Colony Media for the City of Atascadero. http://www.visitatascadero.com/events/index.php?id=36Saturday, August 12, we were invited as special guests to play at The Good Old Fashioned Bluegrass Festival for their first ever late-night dance hall show. What a great crowd we had - starting at 10:30 and playing to two standing ovations!Saturday, September 2, we were featured at the Palm Loft Gallery in Carpinteria, CA,  http://www.palmloft.com/index.html. We always love playing there - the acoustics are so wonderful no sound system is required! The show was recorded for “Destination Ventura” which is broadcast on Caps Media Channel 6 in Ventura.  The next show is on October 16th at 9:00 pm. Check the Schedule to find future broadcasts of our recorded show here: http://www.capsmedia.org/channel-6/Finally, we are in the planning phase of our next CD.  We will let you know when we start recording and raising funds. As ever, thank you all so very much for your generous support of The Honeysuckle Possums!  We are grateful to get to work together, and to do what we love most.
